Quite some time ago, I purchased a TF2 Heavy Weapons Guy Limited Edition Lithograph (limited to 100, I think it was like $100 or something) from the Valve Store. Each one is individually numbered, signed by the artist and comes with a certificate signed by Gabe and stamped with a lambda – it’s pretty damn cool, and a perfectly nerdy waste of money. FINE ART. … UNTIL ONE DAY. Enter psychotic kitty into my room at full blast, zooming straight in and UP the framed litho, which promptly falls forward and hits my bed. Apparently my bed is made of cement, which caused the glass to shatter into a million pieces (I knew I shouldn’t have skimped on the glass, but then I wouldn’t have this story). The broken glass tore the lithograph in multiple locations and was just generally screwed. … Two days or so later, I get a reply from the Valve store rep asking me to return the damaged lithograph. They’re going to replace it. After I managed the rainbows out of my eyes and was able to see clearly enough to reply, I thanked the rep profusely and packed it up and sent it on its way.
